Your first week of trading journal entries

Build the habit that separates traders who improve from traders who plateau

5 min/day for 7 days · beginner

What you'll have when finished

  • Have at least 5 honest entries across 7 days
  • Identify one repeating pattern (good or bad) in your trading
  • Have a daily 5-min journaling habit

Before you start

  • Only logging winners makes the stats lie. Force yourself to log losers with equal effort
  • Sentiment is about PROCESS not OUTCOME — a losing trade you exited disciplined per plan is POSITIVE sentiment
  • Cold-take journaling next week is fiction — write within 1 hour of close while context is fresh

Walkthrough

  1. Set a daily 5-min reminder

On your phone or calendar: every weekday at 4:30 PM ET (or whenever your market session ends), 5 minutes blocked for journaling. The habit is the entire feature.

Success criteria: Recurring reminder is set in your phone or calendar

  2. Open Trading Journal + click New Entry

Discover → Trading Journal. Click New Entry. Form opens.

Success criteria: New Entry form is open

  3. Pick source + sentiment for one closed trade today

Pick the source (Smart Trade / Grid Bot / DCA Safety / CEX / DEX Swap / Futures / Other). Symbol = the pair (e.g., ETH/USDT). Sentiment: positive if you followed your plan, negative if you broke it, neutral if it was a mixed call. Sentiment is process-based, NOT outcome-based.

Success criteria: Source + symbol + sentiment all selected

  4. Write notes about what happened

Free-form. Examples: "Entered ETH at $3,200 when RSI < 35 + EMA9 > EMA20 confirmed. Stopped out at $3,150 (1.5% loss). Bad entry — RSI was rising not falling, I misread the signal." Be specific about WHAT happened and WHY you made the decision.

Success criteria: Notes field has at least 2-3 sentences of specific detail

  5. Write lessons — what you learned

The most valuable field. Examples: "Wait for RSI to actually cross down, not just be below 35", "Trade the second confirmation candle, not the first", "Pause when I feel rushed". Lessons are how the journal compounds into skill.

Success criteria: Lessons field has at least one specific lesson statement

  6. Add 2-3 tags

Tags are the search labels. Standard set to start: "FOMO" / "revenge" / "tilt" / "disciplined" / "patient" / "plan-broken" / "plan-followed" / pair name. These compound across months — future-you searches "tilt" and sees every emotional trade in one filtered view.

Success criteria: Tags field has 2-3 comma-separated tags

  7. Save + repeat daily for 7 days

Save the entry. Repeat every weekday for 1 week. Goal: at least 5 entries (some days have no trades, that is fine). After 7 days, use the search bar to look for patterns: "disciplined" vs "plan-broken" frequency, recurring symbols, recurring emotional tags.

Success criteria: 5+ entries in your journal after 7 days

What's next

You now have a week of honest entries. Next step: open the search bar and search for "plan-broken" — how often does it appear? If more than 30% of entries, your edge is being eaten by undisciplined entries. Search for "patient" — how often? If less than 30%, you might be overtrading. The patterns are in YOUR data; the journal exposed them.
